Frequently Asked Questions

For dates, times, costs and ages for specific camps, check the appropriate season schedule by clicking on the appropriate season link under the Schedules tab. Camp descriptions can also be found there.
All campers should bring equipment and wear clothing appropriate for their sport.  Always remember to send plenty of water and  apply sunscreen if your child will be outside for their camp.

What time and where do we check in?

Registration tables will be located near our playing surface at each location. Registration opens 1/2 hour before the beginning of camp on the first day of camp, and students may be dropped off no sooner than 30 minutes prior to camp on subsequent days.

Are concessions available?

Yes.  Great Starts will provide students the opportunity to purchase bottled drinks and some packaged snacks. Various lunch purchase options also will be available for ALL campers.

How will I contact you if I have an emergency?

You can call Great Starts at 433-0197 at any time during camp. Your message will be immediately conveyed to on-site camp staff.

With all the age ranges involved, will my child be placed in an appropriate group?
Yes. We will place children in age and skill appropriate groups. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's group, please contact our head coach on-site at the end of any camp day.

How many children per coach?

In most instances, there will be no more than 10 children per coach.

Who are your coaches?
Please check our "Coaches" page for bios on our head coaches. Our assistant coaches have great resumes as well! Many are collegiate athletes, others are head or assistant coaches in local schools. All of our coaches have undertaken our 5-star training (including formal background checks) after undergoing two separate interviews.

What if it rains or there is lightning?
In the event of adverse weather conditions, please consult our Weather/Advisories page. Access the Weather/Advisories page by clicking on the "Daily Updates & Weather Advisories", the cloud picture, at the top left of every page on this web site.

Weather issues are a fact of life in Colorado Springs.  Dangerous lightning storms are not uncommon.  If there is lightning or heavy rain (or hail or snow) we will immediately do our best to protect our campers. Your child's safety and the safety of our staff are paramount.  Please understand that we cannot control the weather and that sometimes this will lead to a cancellation of the remainder of the days' activities.  When poor weather results in a camp cancellation it will be because, in our judgment, it would be unsafe or extremely uncomfortable to attempt to continue our activities.   If your child is an all-day camper, you will want to have contingency plans in place in the event of poor weather.  Please be available to pick up your child if poor weather conditions arise.

We will NOT hold makeups for weather cancellations except in certain limited circumstances.  On other occasions, we may simply wait the storm out and then get back to the games.  If it is just "spitting" we usually will continue camp.  For this purpose, please send your child in gear that is appropriate for the various conditions we may encounter.

At some locations we have an indoor backup facility to continue activities in and will do so as weather warrants.  In most cases, we will attempt to communicate with parents as soon as we are aware of weather problems.  However, you should feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the weather.

What is your refund policy?

Cancellation requests received more than 2 weeks prior to camp will be charged a $15 processing fee.  Cancellation requests received less than two weeks prior to camp will be processed with a $35 processing fee.  No refunds will be granted after a particular camp has begun.  Once a camp has begun, we do not refund for absences due to a camper's illness, family schedule, family conflicts, family trips, etc.  We do not offer refunds for cancellation of a camp due to poor weather.  From time to time, we may offer make-up sessions where weather has been a factor. However, if we are unable to provide a make-up session, there will be no refund.
